Canoeing on the Willamette, September 2013

The Troop's first canoeing trip in several years was a great success. We canoed for two days, staying the night on a bar on the side of the river. It was nice all day, but gave us some showers while we were trying to make dinner. All turned out great, though. In the evening, we had perhaps the most beautiful moon rise that I've ever seen, coming up into steel-grey clouds.

On the second day, the river was mostly a little slower, but in some places was faster. We did learn a lesson in being familiar with the pull-out point. Not recognizing it, we paddled right past the pull-out, turning a 20-mile trip into a 25-mile trip. All worked out well, though, and the Troop pushed hard to get to the final pull-out in time for everyone to go home for dinner.
